Murmansk is the capital of Murmansk region on the Kola Peninsula. Murmansk was born just after the First World War. The official opening of the "Romanov-on-Murman" city was on 4th of October 1916. Romanov-on-Murman was renamed in Murmansk in April 1917. The city began to grow swiftly; only 2,5 thousand persons lived here in 1920 and in 1932 already 42 thousand. The population is nowadays about 375 thousand persons! In the beginning the city consists of wooden buildings. The first stone building was built in Murmansk in 1927 and it still exists nowadays as a Regional Art Museum. The first stone apartment houses were built in 1935 and they decorate the centre of Murmansk till now. These are the buildings on Lenin prospect.

Murmansk was awarded a rank of Hero-City for heroism shown by Murmansk dwellers during the Great Patriotic War. The city was heroically defending itself and working, allied convoys were coming here for unloading and even fishing continued in the Barents Sea. A majestic monument for The Defenders of the Arctic was installed on a high hill above Murmansk in 1974 in memory of the War; a figure of a watchman with a rifle of a height of 34 meters, which is visible almost from any point of the city. The folks have christened the monument as "ALYOSHA". He is the first to meet ships arriving to Murmansk and from his foot opens the best view of Murmansk and Kola Bay.

At 09:00 our guide with a car / minibus / touring car collects you from your accommodation and shows you the points of interests connected to Murmansk city and acts of the Northern Heroes. You will visit the place where the first stone of the city was laid. Then we continue to the Memorial to countries of the Anti-Hitler Coalition.
At 11:00 an excursion in the first Nuclear Icebreaker LENIN with joining to the group up to 20 persons.
At 12:00 we take a coffee-tea / lunch break in a small cafe on the way.
At 13:00 we have an excursion in the Regional Historical Museum: three halls with expositions demonstrate the history, archaeology, mineralogy, nature and ethnic peculiarities of Murmansk region on the Kola Peninsula, including the Sami part.
OR we have an excursion in the Navy Museum: explore the history of the Northern Russian Navy with photographs, uniforms and other artefacts, as well as models of ships and submarines
Then the historical city streets await us further. We conitnue to watch the symbolic beacon, the Monument to the Kursk submarine (drowned on 12.08.2002) and the Saviour Temple on Waters. After passing by the Semyonovskoye lake we’ll take a trip to the 34-meter high Memorial "Alyosha". From there you can see Murmansk and its ports from a bird’s view – it is an excellent possibility for making pictures of a panorama of the city and harbour. Then we proceed further to visit a newly opened monument dedicated to a Woman awaiting her seaman and The Allied cemetery.
On the way back we stop to buy souvenirs of the North in the City exhibition Centre.
At 17:00 come back to the hotel.!
