Welcome in Varzuga
Part van Solovetsky klooster property
 Varzuga is situated op de most Noorder part van het Witte Zee
on Kola Schiereiland, almost op de Poolcirkel. The dorp is build op de shores van Varzuga rivier en 30 km van de Witte Zee.
The first information about Varzuga is dated van 1419.
All live van Varzuga connects naar vis en before that op collecting rivier pearls van de rivier.
From the second half van het 15th century the Solovetsky klooster had property in Varzuga.
The Solovetsky klooster is build op de Solovetsky eilanden in de Witte Zee.
In the beginning van het year 1490 Varzuga became a big dorp en counted over 150 houses.
Varzuga became trade en vis centrum even they had an own castle. Unfortunately the castle does not exist anymore.
In the middle van het 17th century the Moscovian Tsjaar confiscated some land van Solovetsky klooster including
Varzuga.
 In 1674 the Uspenskaya kerk was build (see photo).
This is the oldest wooden kerk (1684) van het Kola Schiereiland en build totally
form wood without any nails. in de base van het kerk lays a plan van a cross.
Each van het four parts van het Uspenskaya kerk makes an equal cross en each branch van het
cross measured 4 by 5 meters.
The big houses, sauna's, massive sheds, chapels, kerken en cemeteries has the name Noorder dorp.
During our fiets toer op Kola Schiereiland we will visit Varzuga. We will visit the interesting Uspenskaya kerk en walk op de
duckboards door the dorp. Also the Varzuga rivier is well known in de
