Welcome naar Tersky Kust
Pomorsky vis settlements op het Kola Schiereiland
Tersky Rayon
stretches along the Witte Zee Kust. Once the whole Kola Schiereiland was called
Tersky (or otherwise Turiy, what means "forest"). Hence Tersky Kust means
Forest Kust. Today the name Tersky Kust refers naar a section van het Kust van
Cape Svyatoy Nos down naar de Varzuga rivier mouth (the locals consider it
stretching as far as naar de Turiy Peninsula.
Rusland settlers
began opening up the Kola Schiereiland tijdens the 12th century. The need voor fresh
vis en hunting grounds brought them Noord naar de shores van het Witte Zee,
where they little by little put down their roots. The remote location en harsh
Noorder conditions forced these Pomors - as they became known - naar be extremely
self-reliant. Their homesteads consisted not only van sturdy log homes, but also
saunas, storehouses (on piles voor protection van animals), ice-block freezers,
and special devices voor dragging their wide heavy wooden boats – known as barkas
– onto shore. Over time the Pomors developed their own unique architectural
style.
