Cross-country Ski Marathon 2010 details: |
Marathon length: 50 km in free style cross country skiing.
Date: 4th of April 2010. Start at 11:00 o'clock. The control post at the finish line closes 6 hours after the start.
Place: Dolina Uhyuta; Murmansk sport valley
Necessary documents for registration: Passport, registration form with signed statement that you are participation for own risk and consequences.

Festival of the North
Holiday (10 days)
plus Cross-country Ski Marathon |
The Festival of the North is an annual sports event
in about 20 winter sports that takes place in the towns
of the Murmansk region in March and April. Sports and culture enthusiasts from elsewhere in Russia and abroad arrive in Murmansk region every year at
the end of March, to celebrate the “spring of lights” which is only beginning there.
The Festival of the North
(Prazdnik Severa) goes on for several days and includes several traditional competitions like reindeer races and
ends with the famous ski-marathon.

and Murmansk City, the capital and largest city in the world to the North of the Polar Circle.
Shuttle busses will bring you from the hotels to the sport complex where the marathon starts.

Ski Marathon Festival of the North Murmansk 2008 program description: |
Day 1, 29th of March, Saturday: Day of arrival to Murmansk airport.
Transfer to a hotel. Overnight at the hotel.
Day 2, 30th of March, Sunday: English speaking guide with a car will
serve to bring you to a place of your interest (optional). For training
you can use cross-country ski tracks close to the city. The same day a
wind-surfing and kiting competition is going on as well as a ski racing
Russian Championship is busy.
Cultural program: City tour. Visit to the Historical Museum of Murmansk
region. It includes exhibits of Kola Peninsula flora and fauna,
descriptions, pictures and artefacts of the history and culture of the
Russian North up to the present day, and mineralogical displays.
In evening a skating possibility in the Ice Palace. Overnight at the
hotel.
Day 3, 31st of March, Monday: English speaking guide with a car will
serve to bring you to a place of your interest (optional). You can use
the cross-country ski track close to the city for training. The same day
a wind-surfing and kiting competition is going on as well as a ski
racing Russian Championship is busy.
Cultural program (Optional): Visit to the harbour followed by excursion
to Ship museum.
In evening a skating possibility in the Ice Palace. Overnight at the
hotel.
Day 4, 1st of April, Tuesday: English speaking guide with a car will
serve to bring you to a place of your interest (optional). You can use
ski passes close to the city for training. The same day a ski-jumping
competition is going on as well as a ski racing Russian Championship is
busy.
Cultural program: Visit to the Naval Museum with its photographs,
artefacts and models of the Northern Russian Navy. In evening a skating possibility in the Ice Palace. Overnight at the
hotel.
Day 5, 2nd of April, Wednesday: An English speaking guide with a car
will serve to bring you in a place of your interest (optional). This day
you can also register for participating in ski-marathon. Possibility for
training in the city suburbs. The same day a ski-jumping competition is
going on as well as a ski racing Russian Championship is busy.
Cultural program: Visit to the Oceanarium – a water theatre where seals
and see-cats steals the show.
In evening a skating possibility in the Ice Palace. Overnight at the
hotel.
Day 6, 3rd of April, Thursday: An English speaking guide with a car will
serve to bring you in a place of your interest (optional). This day you
can also register for participating in ski-marathon. Possibility for
training in the city suburbs.
Cultural program (optional): In afternoon a shashlyk-party is offered in
a warm summer-house as well as possibility to snowmobile for 29 km
track. Overnight at the hotel.
Day 7, 4th of April, Friday: An English speaking guide with a car will
serve to bring you in a place of your interest (optional). This day you
can also register for participating in ski-marathon. Possibility for
training.
Cultural program (optional): In afternoon visit to the Polar Research
Institute of Marine Fisheries and Oceanography.
In evening a skating possibility in the Ice Palace. Overnight at the
hotel.
Day 8, 5th of April, Saturday: English speaking guide with a car will
serve to bring you in a place of your interest (optional). You can use
ski passes close to the city for training. The same day a reindeer
racing competition starts as well as ice swimming competition on Semyenovskoe Lake. Late afternoon - free time for shopping and exploring
the city on one’s own. Overnight at the hotel.
Day 9, 6th of April, Sunday: At 11 o’clock the ski Marathon starts. The
guide brings you to the
place and later will pick up to bring you back to the hotel (optional).
The same day Lappish Games
are in the same sport pot. In evening – a festive rewarding ceremony of
winners of the Marathon
on the central square. Overnight at the hotel.
Day 10, 7th of April, Monday: Departure. Transfer to Murmansk airport.
