Russia! Drive through Polar night from Rovaniemi to
Kandalaksha and Umba by our cosy bus to reach places
where you have never been before!
Meeting the old Russian culture in the White Sea area
is waiting for you. Kandalaksha – a harbour and the oldest
city on Kola Peninsula.
Old Umba was founded in the middle of the 15th
century, and is the smaller of the two, and concealed at
the mouth of the river bearing the same name. The White
Sea natives - named Pomor's - construct their houses
using round logs, in a style unique to them.
The National Pomor Museum of the White Sea Dwellers
in Umba is an excellent way of getting acquainted with
the area - its nature and inhabitants.
And the Pomor's still sing songs and dance dances that
were composed by their ancestors.
Immerse yourself in this ancient world, so rich in
tradition. Walk through the village with its old-style
houses; handle delightful crafts; and witness - or
participate in - plays and old dances.
Colourful and semi-precious stones, valuable woods,
and river “pearls” are transformed by Pomor hands into
clocks and baskets, adornments and charms, dolls, toys
and pictures.
Traditional Russian parties with music and dancing
and delicious meal will be for us in evenings in a
beautiful restaurant in Kandalaksha.

Bus excursion tour description: |

|
Day 1: At 08.00 start from Rovaniemi.
Lunch on halfway in Alakurtti. Arrive in Kandalaksha; hotel check-in. In evening a Russian restaurant awaits with drinks, a good meal and fine music. Overnight at the hotel.
Day 2: Drive to Umba. A walk through Old Umba; a visit to Pomorsky Museum and to craft shops; a performance by the Pomor Folk Ensemble. Return to Kandalaksha.
In the evening a farewell party a restaurant with
music and dancing.
Day 3: In the morning leave for the border at Salla.
Lunch on halfway in Alakurtti. Arrive in Rovaniemi late afternoon.
