Murmansk City tour

Enjoy the Murmansk city tour with visit to the historical museum. You become acquainted with the history, the flora and fauna of our region. Depending on your program we can visit the Naval Museum with several expositions about history of the Northern Navy with photographs, uniforms, items and precisely build models of ships and submarines. We will visit the harbour.
Probably you can see one of the many Atomic icebreakers, because among the worlds cities, only Murmansk can boast a fleet of powerful Atomic icebreakers for use on the Arctic seas.

"From C2C on the Barents Road"

The "Barents Road" is more than just a road. It starts in Bødø (Norway), follows the Arctic Circle to the east until Kandalaksha in Russia where you will meet the first C; the White Sea. Then the road goes Northwards to the second C; the Barents Sea.

This 6-day bus excursion round trip starts in Rovaniemi Finland, goes via many cities on the Kola Peninsula including Murmansk and finally end up back in Finland in Ivalo. It passes various cultures and culinary traditions, mountain landscapes, taiga and tundra.

This tour highlights:

Apatity – the main scientific and university centre of the Russian North.

Kirovsk located in the Vudjavr Lake valley among the Khibiny Mountains. A mining town and downhill ski centre.

Monchegorsk called “a pearl in Laplandia’s palm”, surrounded by three blue lakes.

Lovozero; the capitol of the Saami - the indigenous people of Kola Peninsula.

Murmansk – the capitol of the Russian North. Murmansk is a port-city and represents a base for fifteen merchant, fishing, icebreaking, military and research fleets. A 34 mtr high memorial to the Defenders of the Arctic (“Alyosha”) overlooks the city and the harbour. Murmansk has several interesting museums and good restaurants.

Bus excursion tour description:

Day 1: At 08.00 start from Rovaniemi. Lunch on halfway in Alakurtti. Arrive in Kirovsk; hotel check-in. In evening a Russian restaurant awaits with drinks, a good meal and fine music. Overnight at the hotel.

Day 2: Visits to the Polar-Alpine Botanical Garden, the world’s northernmost one, the Historical Museum and the House of the Pioneers of the North; a preserved home of the Kola Peninsula’s first geologists. Hike up the adjacent mountain to an alpine environment; picnic lunch. Dinner in a restaurant. Overnight at the hotel.

Day 3: Travel to Monchegorsk. We visit the Church of God’s Ascension, the largest Orthodox Cathedral of the Kola Peninsula; the walls were painted by famous icon-painters from Moscow.

Travel to the Saami village of Lovozero. Visit the Saami Museum and a Saami dance performance. Traditional Saami dinner beside a campfire in a Saami dwelling.

Proceed to Murmansk and check-in at a hotel.

Day 4: Excursion through Murmansk. Visit the Unknown Soldier memorial on the city’s highest point. Visits to the Art and Historical Museums, and Folk Art Center. The late afternoon can be spent shopping and exploring the city on one’s own.

Dinner and overnight at the hotel.

Day 5: Visit to the Naval Museum. A visit to the harbour to view ships and probably atomic icebreakers. In the evening a farewell party in an excellent restaurant with music and dancing. Overnight at the hotel.

Day 6: In the morning leave for the border at Lotta (Finland). A basket lunch will be provided. Arrive in Ivalo late afternoon.
