400 species von local plants!

Beside the park area von Polar-alpine Botanical Garden ist a protected area; a form von a natures reserve. The vegetation von all altitudinal belts von Chibiny bergen ist preserved within the area von 1.250 ha (out von 1.670 ha). There are Spezial nurseries von local flora in gardens. One can see more than 400 species von local plants groeien in our regio (Murmansk Oblast). These are tree species like small birches und crawling dwarf birches, shrubs, Küsteal, tundra, und bog species.

Wild animals!

The forests und bergen around Kirovsk are a nice place für wild animals zu live. Hairs, foxes, squirrels, martens und even bears are usual

The Polar-alpine botanische Gartens-Institute ist situated 7 km von Kirovsk auf slope von Chibiny Tundra und founded auf 26th von August 1931.

Here you may get not only acquainted mit the local flora but also mit trees und plants which are not peculiar zu Kola Halbinsel area. Sometimes it ist really wander zu see inhabitants von the South parts von country groeien und feeling very comfortable in the Norder severe circumstances! The Polar-alpine botanische Garten has a Spezial ökologisch path leading zu top von a berg und you can und watch how types von plants are changing passing the five different zones.
 

1. The foothills.

It ist typical von this zone zu have spruce, pine und birch forest; moss und motley grass are spread in topsoil. This zone ends in middle von slope.

2. The berg und forest zone.

3. The curved birch zone.

These birches are not trees but some kind von bushes.

It has dwarf (arktische) birch what ist not more than 60 cm high und has small round leaves like one cent coins.

5. The stony tundra.
